Independence Day Celebration in Karachi.

Karachiites celebrate Independence Day with immense patriotism.

KARACHI: Karachiites celebrated Independence Day with great joy on Friday, August 14, 2020. Usually, there are countless stalls set up all over the city, bringing a sudden green laugh over the roads and streets; however, this year due to the Corona-virus Lock-down, a lot of stalls were found missing from public areas to avoid interaction with people.

Although the conditions all over the world right now, Karachiites did not hesitate to dress all up in green and white, having badges as an accessory. Where most people avoided going out, they clicked pictures for their presence on social media and wrote inspiring and heartfelt messages for their country, while others went full-on patriotic and drove all around the city with the Pakistani flag hung on their cars and bikes, fluttering as they drove around blasting Pakistani naghmas like Dil Dil Pakistani, Yeh Watan Humara Hai, Aye Watan Pyaare Watan, etc. When the clock struck twelve, fireworks were heard all over the city and kept going on for a while. Had the schools been open this year, programs dedicated to the Independence Day would have been held and the roaring sounds of Pakistan’s youth would have been heard singing the National Anthem with all their might.

Independence Day is celebrated with overwhelming vigor, like two years prior, a large stage was set up at Lucky One Mall in Karachi, where several people came and performed arts; canvases of Pakistan’s Northern natural scenery were being painted and people were also offered to be made sketches of with green and white effects, a small concert was also held in the mall to encourage the audience.

In the downtown of Karachi, Saddar, markets were beautifully decorated with green and white fairy lights, and the shops selling out ornaments had special discounts for the occasion. Although not a majority was seen out in parks with families this year, respecting the SOPs; during Independence Day, parks are usually seen full with many families enjoying and children playing with their friends and cousins. Regardless of the restrictions this year, Karachiites celebrated Independence Day with full patriotism.
